For RTS (Ready to Ship) orders, they usually ship out same or next day.

For custom made pieces, there is a bit more nuance to the processing time, but we are currently expanding our team so these times should shorten soon! Depending on the current order load, these orders can be finished in under a week, or can take upto 4 weeks. If you need your leather in a specific timeline, please email us at hello@cactuscultleather.co and we will do our best to accommodate!

For orders with both RTS and custom pieces, I will usually wait until the entire order is ready to ship so that we are only shipping one package to your address. This helps lower our carbon impact and saves materials as well!

We also have a Rush Order option that you can include in your purchase that will automatically cut your processing time in half!

It took lots of time and research for me to pick a sustainable, long lasting, and cruelty free material to use for my designs. I spent months testing all the different plant based leathers and found that cactus leather felt and behaved the most like real leather. I swear by this material and have owned products made with it for over three years that show little to no signs of wear!

The more scientific facts:

Desserto is designated as a Certified Bio-based Product by the U.S. Department of Agriculture with 65% of its contents coming from certified bio-based cactus. Approximately three cactus leaves are used to create one linear meter of Desserto material and the cactus plant itself is not damaged in the harvesting process. This means that the same cactus plant can be reused every 6-8 months.

Water Consumption: Approximately 200 litres of water are used to grow one kilogram of cactus biomass, which is about five time less than most other crops which require an average of 1,000 litres of water to grow the same quantity.

Energy Consumption: Only 34.33 megaJoules of energy are used to produce one square metre of Desserto cactus leather, which is significantly less than the 335.84 megaJoules of energy required to produce one square metre of animal leather and the 92.93 megaJoules of energy required to produce one square metre of polyurethane (PU) synthetic leather.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Desserto production emits 1.39 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per square metre, which is three times less than PU synthetic leather (4.81 KG of CO2 equivalent per square metre) and 20 times less than animal leather (27.30 KG of CO2 equivalent per square metre).

I know the fast fashion industry has destroyed everyones concept of the sustainability and longevity of 'vegan' leathers, but Cactus Leather is different!

This material is made in small batches with ingredients that are made to last. It contains 60% cactus fibers, 20% organic cotton canvas, and 20% Biobased composite. No plastic, oils, PU, or any other of those nasty chemicals to see here!

Cactus leather ages beautifully! I personally find that it only gets softer with time and doesn't crease or fold like genuine leather does. I have owned cactus leather pieces for over 6 years and even with regular use I see little to no signs of aging.

Because I believe in this material so much, I offer a 10 year warranty on the leather. This does not cover any damage that may have happened from play, but does cover any repairs that need done on the leather. It is highly unlikely, but hopefully this gives you the piece of mind to finally try out this plant based material.

Because the materials used to make my pieces are costly and everything is custom, I am unable to accept returns or exchanges at this time. That being said, I am absolutely available to resize items that didn’t fit you right for a small fee!
